Glamping at Treebones

We took a trip up North to Treebones Resort three days before the latest fires had them evacuate.

ARRIVING AT TREEBONES

We got into Treebones at around 4:20pm as it were. There’s a long, winding road before you get to the Main Lobby/Check-In area.

After receiving our keys, we then had to park our vehicle in a lot we passed on the way in. It’s on a lower level, not too far from the Main area- like yards away. A Treebones Employee will pick you and your party up via an Electric Golf Cart to take you to your Yurt or camp site.

We got picked up and dropped off at our new home, Yurt number 13. It’s one of the few Yurts that allows more than two people. It also has an unobstructed view of the Ocean, as it sits on its own level, just down from the restaurant and bathrooms. Every campsite/Yurt has a view.

OUR YURT

We had our own deck and it had plenty of chairs. More than what we needed. The perfect spot for Sunrises and Sunsets. These aren’t just tents. They have some framing to them. They have locking doors and windows.

One of the days, while we were sipping wine, we were graced by seeing some girl jump out of a car, pop a squat on the side of the road below us, and relieve herself. She had no idea there was an entire mountainside resort above her. That’s how freeing it is up there!!! * There’s a picture of the event, but the internet is forever, and I don’t need that on my karma.

The Yurts have real windows and doors with locks.

Inside the Yurts are a dream. If you’re a camper and have never “glamped” (glamorous camp), this is peak glamp. The inside of our Yurt was extremely spacious and could have easily fit a couple more people. There’s a table in the center to eat at or play games.

They have a sink inside, a heater, a ceiling fan, real windows, and an overhead skylight. Ours had two double beds and also a fold-out couch. There are a couple of room dividers to offer some privacy inside.

The bathroom not being in the tent is the only thing close to being similar to camping. The showers and bathrooms at the main building are well kept but do get small bugs (crickets, moths, etc.) in the middle of the night. During the daytime the resort employees keep it luxurious.

FOOD

We brought some drinks and food with us but we mostly ate at the main building. The restaurant food was kind of expensive but definitely worth the price. The food was exquisite. They have a nice selection of local wines too. Up and down the main highway, you can find some other restaurants and stores that are reasonably priced.

They have their own honey here and there are bees around. If you are allergic to bees, bring your Epi-pen for sure. Their honey was so good, it reminded me of the best honey I have ever had. I think it is probably the best honey in the world-Kalymnian Honey. Treebones Honey is really good too.

THE VILLAGE

The main area of the resort isn’t that large but can be a nice short evening walk. You can also peek at some of the other styles of camping they offer. We did some laps and took pictures.

The Nest is the picture you see everywhere online describing Treebones. It’s probably the most photogenic spot. It’s basically a human-sized “Nest”. If you do stay here in the later months, make sure you dress warm and have a good rated sleeping bag. It’s really cool.

THE GROUNDS

Througout the grounds there are places to stop, hangout, and chill. There are picnic tables, swings, and chairs stationed throughout. They invite you to stop and breathe in the air while you catch the Sunrise or the Sun setting.

The owner of the property is apparently a Tiny House Builder. The picturesque village/community they’ve created is a perfect place to get away. Phone service and internet access can only be had near the Lobby and is spotty.

The garden is a nice spot to visit and see where some of your food comes from. It’s an inspiring garden and kind of dreamy.

There is also a hot-tub and a pool. It’s on a first come, first serve basis in the time of Covid-19. One family unit per spot and you can only use it for 30 minutes. We enjoyed it earlier in the day as everyone was either still sleeping, taking in a yoga class, getting a massage, or already out hiking the surrounding areas.
